Liberty City Community Development Corporation currently offers after school and summer academic remediation programs designed to reach low-achieving, at-risk youth grades K-8 during out of school time. Our programs operate at two sites, Israelite Baptist Church and Edgar P. Harney Spirit of Excellence Academy, and have been designed to provide continuous service to kids over a span of several years, maximizing impact.
Annually we serve up to 240 children ages 4-12, primarily from Edgar P. Harney Spirit of Excellence Academy, with students from Ben Franklin, Milestone Sabis, and Holy Ghost Catholic Elementaries. We partner with a number of organizations, including Junior Achievement, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Playworks, Children’s Bureau/Project LAST, and many more. Our goal is to provide children with the support and services they need to thrive. Keeping kids in school, teaching practical life skills, and preparing them for better careers that offer greater financial opportunity and mobility makes youth less likely to turn to crime and wind up in prison and more likely to have fulfilling, successful lives.
Liberty City CDC has been designated a Supplemental Education Services provider – a standing awarded only to programs adhering to the highest level of rigor in curriculum, testing, and IEP record keeping.
