After School Program

Liberty City Past Programs 2Liberty City CDC’s after school program takes place during the school year and coincides with the Orleans Parish Public School calendar. Activities take place from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. four days a week. In 2014 we are pleased to announce that we have expanded to two sites–Israelite Baptist Church and Edgar P. Harney Spirit of Excellence Academy. We seek referrals from principals, teachers, and parents in order to target poorly performing students grades K-8. Students are instructed and supervised by certified teachers experienced in inner city schools, as well as trained college and high school volunteers.

Daily Schedule:
4:30 – 5:15 PM: Students receive assistance completing homework and school projects.
5:15 – 6:00 PM: Tutoring/academic remediation. Teachers use the Study Island academic computer program and other targeted curricula in small groups, to reinforce learning. Study Island is designed to help students master the content specified in the Louisiana Grade Level Expectations, and to improve students’ performance on the LEAP and iLEAP.
